Background removal to transparent PNG

Remove the background from one raster image and deliver the foreground as a transparent PNG.

Delivery contract

  • Read one JPEG, PNG or WebP source from the image input.
  • Retain the visually dominant foreground subject or subjects and make the surrounding background transparent.
  • Preserve the source pixel dimensions, aspect ratio, foreground geometry, colors and visible detail.
  • Deliver a valid PNG with an alpha channel. Background pixels are transparent; foreground edges may be partially transparent for antialiasing and naturally translucent detail.
  • Do not crop, resize, add a replacement background or generate new image content.

If the source cannot be fetched or decoded, or has no distinguishable foreground, fail the purchase rather than deliver an arbitrary cutout.
